Arab American and Chaldean Council is Hiring a WIC Registered Dietitian Near Detroit, MI

ACC is hiring a Full-Time Registered Dietitian (RD) within the Metro Detroit area. The WIC Registered Dietitian will work closely with the WIC Intake Specialists, WIC Nutrition Specialists and WIC Program Coordinator to provide nutrition services to woman, infant and children.

More about this role………
The Registered Dietitian promotes the health and wellbeing of low and moderate income pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 who have a nutrition-related health problem. The RD provides education and promotion of WIC initiatives including nutrition and health education as well as breastfeeding support and education. WIC is a health and nutrition program that has demonstrated a positive effect on pregnancy outcomes, child growth and development.


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and current registration with CDE is required
  • Efficiency at the following computer programs is required: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Arabic and/or Chaldean fluency an asset however, not a requirement
  • Full time access to an insured automobile; valid drivers' license and valid social security card
  • Ability to engage families and professionals in a cooperative team environment
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate positive communication both orally and written
  • Good computer skills including navigating the internet and the use of Microsoft Word
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner
  • Provide customers with a high level of customer service.
  • Complete nutrition assessments and determine eligibility of WIC clients.
  • Responsible for maintaining electronic client charts in accordance to the criteria set by the State of Michigan WIC program
  • Assist the Intake Specialist and WIC Nutrition Specialist with job duties in times of staff absence.
  • Promote breastfeeding with clients.
  • Perform breastfeeding follow up with clients.
  • Perform lead testing and education to caregivers regarding lead poisoning.
  • Check email and the WIC Shared Calendar on a daily basis to ensure communication among WIC Team members.
  • Maintain referral information and communicate clinic needs to the WIC Program Coordinator in a timely matter.
  • Maintain office supplies and communicate clinic needs to the WIC Program Coordinator in a timely matter.
  • Perform nutrition counseling to clients deemed eligible by the WIC Nutrition Specialists.
  • Track all clients referred to the RD by maintain adequate follow up in MI WIC.
  • Monitor RD queue, several times each day and ensure proper documentation is in client’s charts.
  • Maintain knowledge of Class III formulas and approve after a review of the clients charts.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized work space.
  • Registered Dietitian will complete a High-Risk Nutrition Care plan with WIC clients that are identified by a WIC Nutrition Specialist with one or more high risk codes.
  • Promote breastfeeding with clients.
  • Certify and recertify WIC participants in accordance to the criteria set by the State of Michigan WIC program.
  • Perform anthropometric measurements and hemoglobin testing.
  • Complete individual nutrition education with clients at necessary appointments.
  • Create and update nutrition education materials for clients.
  • Make appropriate client referrals to ancillary health care providers, and social services.
  • Maintain and update computer databases for research purposes.
  • Complete monthly reports on WIC activities in a timely manner.
  • Participate in staff trainings, conferences and staff meetings as the need arises.
  • Work as a team, helping other staff in the WIC program in times of shortage of staff.
  • Participate in outreach opportunities in the community.
  • Perform any other assigned duties or tasks as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
